Electrical Design Engineer

MtronPTI is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to work at its Yankton, South Dakota site.
MtronPTI is a highly engineered custom frequency control product supplier which designs and fabricates microelectronics including quartz crystals, oscillators and other RF devices. This includes thin film, thick film, and SMD microcircuits.

This position is for an Electrical Engineer or similar engineering major with interests in microelectronic development. Position requires the candidate to work closely with other engineers in the development and product support. Tasks may include product requirements analysis and capture, circuit modeling, and process/product improvement activities. The selected candidate must be an enthusiastic self-starter willing to work closely with team members of various disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of various RF and Digital electrical circuits
  • Work with customers and sale support team to meet customer product requirements.
  • Circuit modeling, building, and testing proto circuits
  • Test and document product performance
  • Document procedures and processes
  • Assist in other electrical design duties as well
  • Work on various other projects and processes as needed

Manufacturing Engineer

Electrical Engineering Intern

This position is for an engineering Intern Student majoring in Electrical Engineering or similar engineering major. Position requires student to work closely with manufacturing engineers on a variety of tasks which may include electrical / electronic assembly, component evaluations, process documentation, data analysis, etc. The selected candidate must be an enthusiastic self-starter willing to work closely with team members of various disciplines.

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • A student pursing a Bachelors or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Understanding of electrical / electronic components (resistors, capacitors, etc.)
  • Self-starter and good team member

RF Product Tester

This position performs various testing operations to support finished product testing such as running automated test stations, manual testing and data collection, and environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal shock, etc.). The candidate must possess good computer skills and ability to learn various different types of electronic test equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tests RF filters and oscillators on various test systems
  • Use computers to manually record data as needed
  • Loads and unloads environmental test systems: vibration, mechanical shock, thermal shock, etc.
  • Supports various RF technicians to assist with data collection and movement of product through traveler steps
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by adhering to 5S and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) policies

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Able to use computer programs and test systems
  • Hand coordination and dexterity
  • Knowledge of specifications and testing processes
  • Ability to work cohesively with peers, engineers and supervisors

Education, Experience, & Training:

  • GED or High School diploma

Manufacturing Engineer (Electrical Engineer Emphasis) – Entry Level

The Manufacturing Engineer will report to Manufacturing Engineering Manager and will provide technical expertise necessary to design, develop and implement manufacturing test systems, processes and tooling required to support plant production activities.

Major Responsibilities:
Major duties include the following:

  • Develops test, manufacturing and various assembly processes
  • Uses engineering tools and statistical concepts to maintain and improve processes
  • Investigates process problems and initiates corrective actions
  • Generation of production level documentation and procedures
  • Specifies and initiates purchase of manufacturing tools, equipment and supplies
  • Plans, specifies and justifies capital equipment expenditures
  • Lead product and/or process improvement teams
  • Designs and develops test systems and electronic systems to support the testing and construction of MtronPTI products.
  • Works closely with cross-functional engineering groups performing concurrent engineering

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Abilities
The minimum qualifications, knowledge, and abilities are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering field from an accredited University with 0-2 years of applicable experience.
  • Hands on position requiring interaction among multiple disciplines within MtronPTI
  • Familiarity with multiple software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point is required.
  • Use of AutoCAD, Solidworks, Minitab and Microsoft AX is preferred.
  • Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Requires US Citizenship

 


Software Development Intern

The intern will work with a small team of software developers, mechanical and electrical engineers to design automatic handling of small electronic components. The company manufacturers and tests components ranging from delicate quartz crystal wafers to large cavity filters.  Many steps in the production line can be automated to reduce human error and to increase production capacity.

The candidate should have good communication skills, be willing to take on new challenges and problems, and learn new technologies.  Resources include an in-house machine shop equipped with a CNC mill.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Minimum requirements

  • Robotics or similar automation experience.
  • Software programming experience (C, Java or .Net)
  • Drafting experience using Solidworks.

Preferred Skills

  • Drafting experience using Solidworks.
  • Basic electronics and mechanical skills related to automation and robotics.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:

  • Office environment with some lifting required.

Electronics Technician

Major responsibilities include:

  • Use of Electronic Test Equipment including, but not limited to, Vector Network Analyzers, frequency counters, power supplies, etc.
  • Ability to run various computer based electronic process equipment for testing purposes
  • Test / Tune various RF and Microwave filters for key parameters such as insertion loss, return loss and attenuation points
  • Test / Set up various oscillators including OCXOs, TCXOs, VCXOs
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose typical problems to component level

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Electrical and Electronic knowledge
  • AS degree in Electronics or equivalent military experience
  • US Citizen
  • Salary range based upon collective education and experience.
  • Must be able to secure a security clearance

Electronics Assembler

Major responsibilities include:

  • Electronic assembly / soldering per IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 requirements
  • IPC Class 1, 2, 3, on micro components and surface mounts.
  • Experience with micro assemblies used on military and prototype applications.
  • Mechanical assembly using torque tools, and fixtures
  • Hand winding of air wound and toroidal coils
  • Various processes such as leak check, epoxy curing, etc.
  • Demonstrate solder skills of surface mount components to PCB.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Familiar of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards
  • Capable of Class 3 (Military and Hi-Rel) certifications (existing certification preferred)
  • Ability to use microscopes for small assemblies for long periods at a time.
